Eagles demonstrate consistency at Blugold Invitational

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – A difficult field of Midwest teams participated in the UW-Eau Claire Frank Wrigglesworth Classic this weekend. Ten of the 15 teams were out of state and gave Edgewood College quality competition. The Eagles were consistent and shot a 334 on Sunday followed by a 335 for a two day total of 669 and a 13th place finish. Luther College won the tournament with a score of 618.

Although the Eagles shot their highest round of the year, three of the six Edgewood College golfers that participated in the UW-Eau Claire tournament improved their first round score. Junior Kenny Rucker paced the Eagles with an 81 on the first day followed by a 78 for a two day total of 159 which tied him for 24th place. Patrick Bohrer followed closely with an 84 on day one and a 79 on day two to tie him for 42nd with a 163 total.

The rest of the Edgewood College golfers finished within four strokes of each other as Tyler Cobb shot a 174 while Austin Foley and Michael Mathwick followed him with 176 and 177, respectively. Tony Thaden also improved his first round score by two strokes, shooting a 90 on Sunday and an 88 on Monday to round out the Eagles top six golfers with a 178 to finish tied for 73rd.

Luther College from Iowa narrowly claimed first place in the tournament. The Norse shot a 618 to edge Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) by one stroke. Alex Kolquist from Gustavus Adolphus was the medalist after shooting a 73 on Sunday and a 72 on Monday for a five over par 145.

Edgewood College will head to Lake Geneva next weekend to participate in the MSOE Fall Invitational at Grand Geneva Resort. The two day tournament will begin on Sunday, September 30.
