MADISON, Wis. - Eight newcomers and two returning players is hardly the recipe for a championship squad. However, with a tradition that just keeps growing, the Edgewood College women's tennis team is no ordinary program. Edgewood College shutout Aurora University and Benedictine University on Saturday to clinch their fifth consecutive Northern Athletics Conference championship.

Moved indoors to cold temperatures and the threat of rain, the Eagles had no trouble staying hot at the Powless Tennis Center. Edgewood College (12-1, 11-0 NAC) rolled through three doubles victories and then dominated singles play against Aurora University. Only Morgan Wilson at No. 1 singles and Kristen Boone and No. 6 singles surrendered more than two games in their matches. Wilson defeated the Spartans' Chloe Madison 6-4, 6-0 while Boone topped Jordan Hankes 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).

In the afternoon match, only Amber Cook and Anna Miles lost as many as two games during doubles play, defeating Benedictine's Vivianna Iway and Kam Haifleigh 8-2 at the No. 2 position. In singles play, Laura Olsen scored a 6-2, 6-3 win over Bhavana Movva at No. 2 singles, while Boone went to a 10-point supertiebreaker at No. 6 singles, winning 6-4, 4-6, 11-9.

The five straight titles is the second longest streak by any Edgewood College program, topped only the eight straight titles won the Eagles women's soccer team from 1994 to 2001. The Eagles last went undefeated in conference and won an outright championship in 2008-09.

Edgewood College takes a 12-match winning streak into their final dual match of the fall season. The Eagles will play undefeated UW-Whitewater at 6:30 p.m. at Whitewater on Wednesday, September 26.
