MADISON, Wis. – Edgewood College and Aurora University traded shots back and forth on Saturday afternoon for 104 minutes into double overtime. Nobody found the back of the net until the 104:04 mark in the second overtime when Andrew Aurit hooked up with Kelmend Isaj who nailed the game-winner to give the Eagles the 1-0 victory.
The Spartans just outshot the Eagles (4-3-1, 2-1 NAC) 13-12, but Edgewood College had the advantage 5-4 in shots on goal. The one more shot on goal that the Eagles had proved to be the difference. Aurora fired three shots in the first overtime, but couldn't get one past Chad Stivers in goal. Five different Eagle players accounted for all of the Edgewood College shots on goal. Aurora's Colby Newquist put both his shots on goal but could not convert.
Each goalkeeper and their respective defenses did their part in keeping the game close. Edgewood College's Stivers grabbed three saves in the first half while goalkeeper Ethan Cashen of Aurora (4-3-1, 1-1-1 NAC) tallied one. Cashen also saved two shots in the second half. Both goalkeepers stopped the only shot they faced in overtime, but Cashen a well-placed ball by Isaj just got by the diving goalkeeper.
The game was just as equal physically as Edgewood College was handed 13 fouls and a yellow card while Aurora was given 12 fouls and a yellow card.
