WEST CHICAGO, Ill. – In the third tournament of the season, the Edgewood College men's golf team shot their best round of the year. The Eagles pulled together to shoot a 319 in the one day Benedictine University Fall Invitational to tie for ninth out of 20 teams. Junior Kenny Rucker led the way for Edgewood College finishing tied for 10th in the 103 player field.
Edgewood College just missed finishing in the top five by two strokes. The middle of the pack had seven different teams separated by two strokes, so a top five finish was up for grabs for the Eagles.
Not a single Edgewood College golfer broke 40 on the front nine, but the Eagles finished strong. All top five Eagle golfers improved their front nine scores and carded lower numbers after the turn. Rucker and Michael Mathwick both broke 80 for the Eagles, shooting 77 and 78 respectively. Tony Thaden followed closely with an 80 while Ryan McCrumb carded an 84. Tyler Cobb rounded out the top five with a 90.
Patrick Bohrer competed as an individual in the 18-hole event and shot his lowest collegiate round with a 74 to tie for second. His 35 on the front nine was the best in the field before the turn.
St. Norbert College edged North Park University by three strokes with a 307 to escape with the win. Robin Hakkanson of North Park earned the medalist honor by shooting a 36 on the front nine followed by a 34 on the back nine for a one under 70.
Edgewood College will be back in action next Sunday on September 23 for the two day UW-Eau Claire Fall Invitational.
