RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Edgewood College has never defeated Dominican University in 12 meetings, but after winning two of their last three games, the Eagles were hoping they had the momentum to take over the Stars. Edgewood College could not find a way to stop the Dominican offense and dropped their first Northern Athletics Conference contest to the Stars 4-0.
Edgewood College (2-3-1, 0-1 NAC) had only given up one goal in the past four games, but Dominican's 24 shots were too much to handle as the Eagles' gave up a season high four goals. Edgewood College goalkeeper Chad Stivers denied the Stars' leading scoring Ryan Roberts in the third minute of play, but one minute later Roberts pressured the goal again and netted the game's first goal at the 4:38 mark in the first half. Edgewood College's Westin Smith attempted to tie the game following the Star's goal, but Dominican's goalkeeper Max Gutbrod turned him away. The Stars (3-1-1, 1-0 NAC) took control for the rest of the half, adding another goal in the 29th minute by Ryan Ybarra and leading the shot total 12-6 at the break.
In the second half, the Edgewood College offense was shut down and could only muster three shots. The Eagles only had one shot on goal all game. Dominican on the other hand, was not satisfied and added two more goals to their lead. Ryan Ybarra cashed in on an opportunity in the 50th minute and followed that with another score 70 seconds later.
Edgewood College goalkeeper Chad Stivers matched his season total with six saves while allowing all four goals in just over 58 minutes of play. Matt Dammen came in for the last 31 minutes and saved five shots for the Eagles.
Edgewood College will travel to Milwaukee this Tuesday to take on Wisconsin Lutheran College. This Northern Athletics Conference matchup will kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
