MADISON, Wis. – Edgewood College and Lake Forest College traded their best shots for 110 minutes on Wednesday night, but neither team could land a knockout punch. The Eagles and Foresters settled for a well-played 0-0 tie at Breese Stevens Field. For the Eagles, it was their final match before opening their Northern Athletics Conference schedule.

Both goalkeepers were called on to make big saves in the game. In the third minute, Edgewood College's Kelmend Isaj fired a long distance shot that was headed for the upper corner until Lake Forest goalkeeper Ethan Guenter turned it away. A few minutes later, Edgewood College (2-2-1) goalkeeper Chad Stivers stopped a low blast from Foresters' leading scorer Mahir Mameledzjia. Lake Forest (3-1-1) held a 6-5 edge in shots in the first half, with each goalkeeper making two saves.

Stivers was really put to the test in the second half, where he made four saves, including a heartstopping moment in the 86th minute. Mameledzija came out of a crowd and punched a low shot at the Eagles net. Stivers lunged and got his fingertips on the ball, but didn't slow it down much. The Foresters had nearly started their celebration, when the ball trickled just wide of the right post.

In the overtime periods, Sam Quinones fired off two shots, and Paul Domann had one knocked down by a defender, but the Eagles couldn't put one on the frame. Stivers made his seventh and final save on a shot by Lake Forest's Jordan Hartman in the 106th minute to preserve his second career shutout in three matches started. Isaj led the team with five shots, including one on goal. Quinones took three shots, putting one on net. Lake Forest outshot Edgewood College 16-11 on the night.

Edgewood College will open their NAC campaign on Saturday against five-time defending conference champion Dominican University in River Forest, Ill. The Eagles and Stars will begin at 1:00 p.m.
