Thaden helps Eagles place fifth at Marian Invitational

FOND DU LAC, Wis. –In a tournament filled with Northern Athletics Conference opponents, Edgewood College placed fifth out of the 11 team field. Junior Tony Thaden led the Eagles as he carded his second best collegiate score with a two day total of 162. Host school Marian University shot a combined 609 to win their own tournament at Whispering Springs Golf Club.  

After shooting a 326 on day Edgewood College put themselves in the middle of the pack. The Eagles found themselves in fifth place of the 11 team field. Thaden carded a 79 on day one to pace the Eagles while Michael Mathwick and Austin Foley followed closely with an 81 and 82, respectively. Kenny Rucker shot an 84 and Tyler Cobb rounded out the Edgewood College top five with an 86.

Day two proved more challenging for most of the field as seven of the 11 teams saw their scores increase from Sunday. The Eagles shot a 334, eight strokes higher than the previous round, but were able to hold onto their fifth spot. Rucker put up the low round for Edgewood College on Monday with an 80. Thaden shot a second round 83 to tie for 15th with a two day total of 162 and the Eagles' best score. Foley carded a 90 on Monday but a highlight he will never forget as he holed the 138 yard 15th for a hole-in-one.

Marian easily ran away from the field in their home invitational as they shot a 302 Sunday followed by a 307 the following day. The Sabres finished 37 strokes ahead of second place Carroll University. Kyle Bruce from Marian claimed the tournament's top honors by four strokes by posting a 150.

Edgewood College will head to West Chicago, Illinois to participate in the Benedictine University Fall Invitational for a one day tournament on Sunday, September 16. This invitational will be played at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club.
