JANESVILLE, Wis.- A challenging field came to Glen Erin Golf Club, where the men's golf team hosted the season opener for the Culver's Edgewood College Fall Classic. A hot day one, and a windy day two proved challenging for the Eagles who fought back from a disappointing opening round to finish 11th with a score of 651. Viterbo University won the tournament with a score of 596.

Edgewood College had two teams participate in their home tournament. Junior Kenny Rucker paced the way for the Eagles' Red team by shooting a team-low 78 but no other Eagle was able to crack 80. Austin Foley shot the low score for the Edgewood College Black team with an 81. After day one of the tournament, the Eagles' Red team found themselves in 14th with a score of 331 and the Black team shot a 336 which put them in 16th.

With the wind blowing on day two, it was evident that scores would be higher and the Eagles would have to work even harder to climb up the leaderboard. For the Red team, all five of the Eagles improved their scores from day one, but it was not enough to escape from the bottom half of the leaderboard. Again Rucker was the only one to break 80, by shooting another team-low 76. Rucker finished tied for 21st in the 97 player field. Michael Mathwick posted the next best with an 80 and Ryan McCrumb followed closely with an 81. Shane Leadholm carded a two-day total 168 to lead the way for the Black team.

After St. Olaf College shot a 291 and the University of St. Thomas shot a 293 on day one, the top spot seemed unreachable for the rest of the field. Viterbo University was the next closest with a 300. However, the V-Hawks shot a 296 on the second day for a combined 596 to edge St. Olaf and St. Thomas by three strokes for the victory. Southwest Tech's Aaron Rondon was the medalist, shooting a pair of 72's.

Edgewood College will head to Fond du Lac for the Marian Invitational. The two day tournament will begin on Sunday, September 9.
