LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's golf team shot their second best 36-hole score this past weekend, but could not escape the bottom half of the leaderboard. The Eagles finished tied for 12th of 19 teams with a two day score of 646 at the Ronnie Eastman Invitational.
After shooting a 321 on Sunday, the Eagles found themselves tied in 12th place with MSOE and the Viterbo University Silver team. Edgewood College has been consistent all year and the Eagles demonstrated that once again by firing a 325 on Monday. Junior Kenny Rucker posted a 78 during round one followed by a 79 for a two day total of 157 to tie for 29th in the field of 97 golfers.
Michael Mathwick was the next Eagle finisher as he carded a 161 to crack the top 50. Tyler Cobb has averaged 87.00 strokes per 18 holes this year, but shot an 81 followed by an 83 to finish in the third place spot for Edgewood College. Patrick Bohrer and Tony Thaden carded a pair of 167's to round out the Eagles' scoring.
Grand View University of Iowa fired a 295 on Sunday and a 311 on Monday to finish with a 606 and just edge out Iowa Western Community College by three strokes to win the tournament. Max McGrail of Iowa Western shot a 141 to take the tournament's medalist honors.
Edgewood College will need to be at their best as they head to Whistling Straits for the NAC Championship next weekend. The two day championship begins on October 14.
