Eagles push winning streak to six dual matches

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Edgewood College women's tennis team capped their four road dual match weekend with a pair of victories on Sunday. After winning both matches on Saturday, the Eagles topped Aurora University 7-2 in the morning before beating last year's co-conference champions Benedictine University 6-3 to end the weekend 4-0.

The Eagles started the dual match against Aurora by winning all three doubles matches, highlighted by an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles. Partner's Laura Olsen and Kristal Kryshak defeated Taylor LaVoy and Allison Kilker to put the Eagles ahead of Aurora (5-6, 4-5 NAC) early.

Jessi Ditzler and Shae Beckwith gave the Eagles a pair of victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Ditzler defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-0 while Beckwith won 6-0, 6-4. Kristen Boone won her No. 4 singles match 6-3, 6-2 and Olsen pushed her record to 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.

In the afternoon dual match, Edgewood College (8-2, 8-1 NAC) had to come from behind to extended their winning streak to six dual matches. Trailing 2-1 after doubles, the Eagles had to earn the win in singles play. After winning the first set 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Ditzler had to win a second set tiebreaker over Benedictine's MaryClare Loughrey. Ditzler trailed 5-1 in the second set tiebreaker, but started to battle back. She finally took the lead at 11-10 and won the tiebreaker 12-10 to defeat last year's Northern Athletics Conference individual champion 6-1, 7-6 (12-10).

Beckwith took her No. 2 singles match 6-1, 6-1 and Taylor Storbakken won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. At No. 5 singles, Olsen won 6-0, 6-0 while Boone won 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 at No. 4 singles to give the Eagles the 6-3 win over Benedictine (2-8, 2-7 NAC).

The Eagles will be in action again on Wednesday when they host Concordia University Chicago at Quann Park in Madison. The dual match is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
