MADISON, Wis. – For the second time this season, the Edgewood College men's soccer team welcomed a regionally ranked opponent to Breese Stevens Field. Elmhurst College, ranked fourth in the Central Region, controlled play for most of the game, and the Eagles were able to withstand many attempts by the Blue Jays. However, in the end the pressure was just too much as Elmhurst escaped with a 1-0 victory.

Elmhurst (5-3) came out and ripped shot after shot at the Eagle cage, however not many were on target. In the first 15 minutes, the Blue Jays took three shots and had three corner kicks. The Blue Jays best opportunity to score came in the 34th minute when Matt Sterner took a free kick from 30 yards out that hit the cross bar and bounced straight down before being corralled by Kyle Koenig, the Eagles' keeper.

In the first half, Elmhurst outshot Edgewood College (1-6) 11-0, with only one shot being on net.

The Blue Jays had two more great opportunities to take the lead just four minutes apart in the second half. In the 62nd minute, Sterner had a header go off the crossbar and in the 66th minute, Austin Haas took a free kick from 25 yards out that banged off the crossbar.

Only three minutes later, the Eagles answered with their best scoring chance of the night. Brad Swenson ripped a shot from 45 yards out in the middle of the field. Elmhurst's goalkeeper, Sebastian Domczewki made a diving save down to his right to keep the score knotted at zero.

In the 77th minute, the Blue Jays pressure finally paid off as they netted the first goal of the contest. Brian Chrencik ripped a cross from 30 yards out on the right side and Brian McMahon headed the ball towards the goal. Koenig dove but couldn't get enough on the ball to keep it from crossing the goal line and Elmhurst took a 1-0 lead.

The Blue Jays controlled the ball from that point on to take the contest 1-0. In the game, Elmhurst outshot the Eagles 20-1 and had eight corner kicks to Edgewood College's one. Only three of the Blue Jays' 20 shot were on net, with one going in and Koenig stopping the other two.
