BELOIT, Wis. - Last season, the Edgewood College women's tennis team took two of three doubles matches from Beloit College, but couldn't claim enough singles victories in a 5-4 loss. Today at Beloit, the Eagles again took a 2-1 lead through the doubles portion, but this time around, pulled out four singles matches for a narrow 6-3 win.
The match ultimately came down to No. 4 and No. 5 singles which both went to 10-point super-tiebreakers with the Eagles holding a narrow 4-3 lead in the team score. Junior Jessi Ditzler rallied back from a love set and claimed her No. 4 singles match 6-3, 0-6, 10-5 over Beloit's Emma Beck. At No. 5 singles, freshman Ali Diamond-Tumbush recorded a 10-3 win in the super-tiebreaker to defeat Lily Rubenstein and secure the final score. Seniors Amber Hemp and Shae Beckwith won their matches in straight sets at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
Edgewood College (1-2) started the night right with wins in two of the three doubles matches, but it wasn't easy. Hemp and Beckwith rolled to an 8-3 win over Julia Win and Alexandra Hinck of Beloit College (1-1) at No. 2 doubles, but Ditzler and Brittany Storhoff needed a tiebreaker in their No. 3 doubles match against, Ashley Miglin and Nora Barr. Ditzler and Storhoff ultimately pulled out a 7-2 win in the tiebreaker to claim the match 9-8.
The Eagles will be right back in the van on tomorrow, when they travel to another Midwest Conference foe. Edgewood College will face Lawrence University in Appleton on Wednesday afternoon.
