MADISON, Wis. - A strong wind blew through Breese Stevens Field for most of Tuesday night, but ultimately it was the wind that went out of the sails of the Edgewood College men's soccer team in a season ending 2-1 loss to Concordia University Wisconsin. The Eagles scored a second half goal to halve a two-goal deficit but couldn't find the equalizer.

Edgewood College (7-11, 5-6 NAC) entered the game needing a victory to keep their hopes of a Northern Athletics Conference Tournament berth alive, but Concordia University dealt an early blow to those hopes. The Falcons' Jacob Pope found open space near the top of the box in the third minute and rifled a shot under the cross bar, beating Edgewood College goalkeeper Kyle Koenig who had trouble finding traction in the mud in front of the net.

Enzo Berrini of Concordia University Wisconsin (11-5-3, 7-2-2 NAC) gave the Falcons a two-goal lead 10 minutes into the second half. Berrini took a pass from Kyle Sytsma and fired a hard shot into the top left corner of the net.

The Eagles gave their fans hope with their first goal of the game in the 68th minute. Greg Dezell dribbled from midfield into open space and curled a perfect pass to Andrew Aurit streaking down the right side. Aurit played the back to the middle to Paul Domann who finished the combination with a shot into the lower right corner of the net to make the score 2-1.

The Eagles applied increasing pressure for the final 20 minutes of the match, but against a packed in Falcon defense could only manage one shot. Concordia Wisconsin goalkeeper Samuel Ische made one save for his 11th win of the season. Koenig finished the night with four saves as the Eagles were outshot by the Falcons 14-8.

The loss ended the Eagles' season short of the conference tournament for the first time since 1993, snapping a streak of 17 straight years of postseason play. Seven wins marks the fewest for the men's soccer program since 2002. Edgewood College will graduate six seniors from this year's squad: Woody Burns, Dezell, Kyle Glynn, Nate Hedrington, Zach Miller and Andy Witek.
