LISLE, Ill. - In their final dual match before the Northern Athletics Conference championships, the Edgewood College women's tennis team claimed all six singles matches on their way to an 8-1 victory over Benedictine University. The Eagles finished their NAC dual match season with a 10-1 record and will carry 20 points in this weekend's NAC Championships.
In doubles action, Edgewood College's No. 2 team of Bridget Prendergast and Kelsey Steinhorst completed a perfect NAC season, going 11-0 with an 8-3 victory over Andrea Oliva and Evangelina Gallegos. Jessi Ditzler and Brittany Storhoff also completed an undefeated NAC season at No. 3 doubles with an 8-0 win against BU's Nicole Choinka and Lina Savickas.
The Eagles swept the singles portion with Shae Beckwith earning a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Ashley Shall at the No. 3 position. Prendergast had to go to a third set tiebreaker at No. 5 singles before edging Choinka 5-7, 6-3, 12-8. Storhoff went a full three sets to defeat Savickas 3-6, 6-0, 6-1.
Barring a Rockford College upset of Concordia University Wisconsin tomorrow, Edgewood College and the Falcons will both enter the NAC Championships with 20 points, thanks to identical 10-1 conference dual match records. Action begins on Saturday at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the campus of the University of Wisconsin. Finals in each flight take place Sunday afternoon.
