AURORA, Ill. – The Edgewood College women's tennis put their four dual match winning streak on the line when they traveled to play Northern Athletics Conference leader, Aurora University. Despite only winning two singles matches, the Eagles were able to escape with a 5-4 victory to extend the winning streak to five.
In No. 1 singles, Kelsey Steinhorst came away with an easy victory as she topped Aurora's (7-3, 5-2 NAC) Lindsey Coakley 6-2, 6-0. Amber Hemp was the only other Eagle (5-2, 5-1 NAC) to win her singles match as she defeated Rebecca Papke 6-1, 6-2 in No. 2 singles.
The Eagles were dominant in doubles as they took all three matches from the Spartans. In No. 3 doubles, Brittany Storhoff and Jessi Ditzler won their match 8-2. Hemp and Shae Beckwith had to go to an extra game as they took their match 9-7 over Papke and Lauren Hastings in No. 1 doubles. Steinhorst and Bridget Prendergast completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win at the No. 2 spot.
The Eagles will return home on Sunday when the face MSOE and Beloit College at Quann Park. The match against MSOE is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m. The Eagles will then play Beloit College in a match that is scheduled to start at noon.
