Eagles continue stellar play against Inferno and Warriors

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Edgewood College tennis team won its third straight meet with back-to- back shutouts against Alverno College and Wisconsin Lutheran College.

As a team, Edgewood College did not drop a set in singles play all day with their closest game being a 6-4 victory against Wisconsin Lutheran. The Eagles also played well in doubles as they won all six matches decisively, the closest match (8-3) also coming against the Warriors.

Kelsey Steinhorst, Jessi Ditzler, and Bridget Prendergast all won their matches against Alverno (1-4) easily, by identical scores of 6-0 and 6-1 in No. 1, No. 2, and No. 5 singles, respectively. Ditzler and partner, Brittany Storhoff were the Eagles (2-2) top doubles performers against the Inferno as they took an 8-0 victory.

Against Wisconsin Lutheran (1-6) the winning trend continued for the Eagles (3-2) as they did not drop a set in singles play to repeat their performance from earlier in the day. Shae Beckwith led Edgewood College in the meet as she defeated Wisconsin Lutheran's Izumi Sawada 6-1 and 6-0.

This marks the second time in the last two seasons the Eagles have taken two victories by a score of 9-0 on the same day. Last season they defeated Benedictine University and Aurora University 9-0 on September 20.

Next the Eagles will travel to Rockford, Ill. to face off against the Regents on September 17. The match is slated to start at 4:00 p.m.
