MADISON, Wis. - Five Edgewood College players scored in double figures, led by Kent Faurote's 23 points, as the Eagle men's basketball team broke away from a halftime tie to defeat Concordia University Chicago 85-74. Faurote and senior Jon Ciche, who recorded a double-double, helped the Eagles move within one game of capturing the Northern Athletics Conference North Division.
A wild first half resulted in a 43-43 tie at the break. The Eagles rolled out to an 11-2 lead in the first four minutes, capped by a Jeff Barczak dunk. However, the Cougars stormed right back and tied the game at 15 by the 10-minute mark. Later, a steal by Deontay Young led to a Lono Brazil layup and the Cougars had a 35-27 lead. The Eagles chipped away, getting a three-point basket by Faurote, followed by a rare four-point play from Ben Wisniewski gave the Eagles a slim two-point lead. Young would have the last laugh of the half, though, racing the length of the court to beat the buzzer and tie the game at the break.
Edgewood College and Concordia Chicago traded baskets early in the half, until the Eagles put together a 13-2 run to take a 62-51 lead. Faurote scored nine points during that run. The Cougars managed to get as close as seven with 8:15 left to play in the game, but a 14-5 Eagle run over the next seven minutes put the game out of reach.
