MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College women's basketball team shrugged off a sluggish first half and pulled away from Marian University 65-44 for their 12th win in their last 14 games. The Eagles rebounded from a 35.5 percent shooting effort in the first half to post a 48.3 field goal percentage in the second half to bury the Sabres.
Early on the game had all the signs of a rout with Edgewood College (12-6, 10-2 NAC) scoring the first 11 points of the game and holding Marian University without a field goal for the first 4:45. Sophomore Janelle Gosh scored five straight points during the opening run with a jumper and a conventional three-point play. The Eagles would hold a 21-7 lead at the midpoint of the first half, before the Sabres began to reel them in. Colleen Moody scored 11 of her team's points during a 14-4 run which cut the Eagle lead to four. The Eagles would get back-to-back baskets from Lexie Schmitgen and Amber Hemp to close the half with a 32-25 lead.
After the Sabres and Eagles traded baskets twice to open the second half, Edgewood College began to heat up. The Eagles made eight of their 14 shots during a 18-4 run, giving the Eagles a comfortable 52-34 lead with 9:30 remaining. Senior Megan Scheele, playing in her 100th career game for the Eagles, scored five baskets during the run.
