Box Score

MADISON, Wis. – For the third consecutive game, the Edgewood College men's soccer team played a one goal game. However, this time they came out on the short end as they fell to #19 Dominican University 2-1.

The two teams played the first half to a stalemate with Dominican (10-1-3, 8-0 NAC) taking three more shots in the frame. The best scoring opportunity for the Stars came just 11 minutes into the game. They got off three shots in a four minute span, two of which were saved by Eagle goalkeeper Shane Sullivan. Edgewood College's best scoring chance was in the 33rd minute. Andriy Apetrey got off two shots in three minutes, one sailed high and the other was blocked by a Star defender.

In the 63rd minute, Michael Kapusta had an opportunity to give the Stars the lead. From 20 yards out he ripped a shot that Sullivan got a hand on to deflect the ball high. Just seven minutes later, Juan Saldana got Dominican on the board. He took a shot from 30 yards out and put the ball into the upper right corner of the net.

Saldana would strike again in the 84th minute as Kapusta found him from the left side of the field, across to the right side. He took the pass and slid the ball past Sullivan into the left side of the net to give the Stars a commanding 2-0 lead with just six minutes to play.

The Eagles (10-4-2, 7-2 NAC) would cut the lead in half just 23 seconds after Saldana's second goal. Greg Dezell took his second penalty kick of the year and deposited it into the lower right side of the net. For Dezell it was his fifth career penalty kick and he has converted on all five. Last season he was 3-3. Dezell's goal was also the first goal Dominican has given up in Northern Athletics Conference play this season.

The Stars put pressure on the Eagles all night as they tallied 16 corner kicks to Edgewood College's one. The 16 corner kicks is the most against the Eagles this season and the most since October 18, 2007 when they allowed 13 to Maranatha Baptist. Dominican also outshot the Edgewood College 18-5, including 12-2 in the second frame. Sullivan tied his season high for saves as he tallied nine saves on the Eagles 18 shots.

The Eagles will be in action again on Thursday when they travel to Watertown to face Maranatha Baptist. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
