MADISON, Wis. (April 6, 2008) – Facing stiff winds and low temperatures, the Edgewood College women's tennis team opened the spring portion of their schedule in less than spring-like conditions, falling in a pair of dual matches in a triangular at McKee Farms Park. The Eagles dropped a 6-3 decision to UW-Stevens Point and fell to Beloit College 7-2.
Overall, head coach Robert Barber was very pleased with his team's first spring performance. "Considering the long winter, a terribly windy day, missing some key starters, and with only a few practices under our belt this spring, I was pleased with the team's effort and where their games are at,” said Barber. “After a couple more weeks, they should be back into the swing of things for our next matches on April 19th.”
Junior Kate Brondyke had an outstanding day, winning both of her No. 3 singles matches and, paired with teammate Hannah Pinsack, splitting her doubles matches. Brondyke downed Kaitlyn King of UW-Stevens Point in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 before rallying for a 4-6, 7-5 (10-8) win over Julia Win of Beloit College. Brondyke and Pinsack won their first doubles match 9-7 over UW-Stevens Point, before finally being bested by Beloit College 8-3.
Sophomore Kelsey Steinhorst defeated UW-Stevens Point's Emily Riordan at No. 2 singles and freshman Rachel Mixtacki needed a tiebreaker at No. 4 singles to top Lily Rubenstein of Beloit College for the Eagles' other victories.
