Eagles battle in five-set victory at Pointers

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Women's Volleyball continued road action as they prepared for the start of their NACC slate Tuesday. They took on the UW-Stevens Point Pointers. The Eagles (8-3) emerged victorious in a 3-2 (25-21, 19-25, 25-15, 23-25, 15-11) battle with the Pointers (5-6).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Two unanswered early in the first set proved key, as Edgewood University led 9-7 and held onto their slim lead down the stretch. Another pair of back-to-back points late in the set pushed Edgewood University ahead 18-14 as they headed towards a set one win.
 
- The squads exchanged blows in an even second set, but UW-Stevens Point came ahead late with a 5-0 rally as they slowed down the Eagles offense and tied up the match.
 
- Edgewood University's offense took over in the third set. They swung for 17 kills and hit .314, finishing off the set on a 6-2 stretch where all six of the Eagles points were from kills.
 
- Edgewood University jumped ahead early 13-9 in the fourth set, but the Pointers defense successfully slowed down the Eagles offense once again as they battled back ahead 17-16 on a 8-3 rally. UW-Stevens Point nursed a slim lead late, The Pointers successfully forced a fifth set, finishing the frame with a 3-1 run.
 
- Edgewood University jumped ahead two points early in the fifth set, fending off the Pointers as the hosts hung tough. Four Eagles points in a row had the visitors flying high ahead 11-6 on route to victory.
   
- Both squads hit .210 in the marathon affair. Edgewood University had a 68-to-53 edge in kills, while UW-Stevens Point controlled things at the net with a 10-to-6 gap in blocks.
 
- Molly Amendt shined, posting 11 kills with only one error for a .455 hitting percentage on 22 attempts.
 
- Nida Zukauskaite led all Eagles with 20 kills and tallied 10 digs for a double-double.
 
- Abbey Eivins and Laila Rasmussen each earned a double-double. Eivins finished with 29 assists and 10 digs, while Rasmussen tallied 23 assists and 14 digs.
 
- Madison Amstutz continued to play well at libero with a team-high 17 digs and three aces.
 
- Natalie Murphy swung for 11 kills and posted a pair of blocks. Marina Hosticka paced Edgewood University with three blocks.
 
- Carly Thomka played key points for the Pointers, contributing 12 kills, five blocks, and a pair of aces.
 
- Ella Trieloff led UW-Stevens Point with 14 kills. Maggie O'Brien tallied 19 assists.
 
- Hannah Strege earned a double-double with 17 assists and 11 digs.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Eivins' 29 assists were a season high.
 
- Amendt's .455 hitting percentage was a career best (min. 20 attempts).
 
- The Eagles have won three-straight over UW-Stevens Point and seven straight seven set matches dating back to 2024.

UP NEXT
Edgewood University will look to carry their momentum to the Todd Wehr Edgedome Thursday as they kick off NACC action. They will host the Lakeland Muskies in a conference showdown. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
