Eagles conclude regular season with sweep of Warriors

WAUWATOSA, WIS. – Women's Volleyball hit the road to wrap up regular season and NACC action Thursday. They took on the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors in their regular season finale. The Eagles (22-6, 13-0 NACC) extended their winning streak to 13, blanking the Warriors (11-15, 7-5) 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-16).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After being behind early, a 6-0 burst propelled Edgewood University ahead 13-8. While a 5-1 reply from Wisconsin Lutheran closed the gap, the offense put together a 6-0 rally featuring five kills and an ace for a 20-13 advantage. An 8-3 run pulled the Warriors within two, but back-to-back points would seal the deal.
 
- An 8-3 stretch pushed the Eagles ahead 14-10 as they battled in the second frame. While three points in a row would cut the gap to one, Edgewood University finished off the set decisively on a 11-4 stretch.
 
- Wisconsin Lutheran would nurse slim leads early in the third set, but the Eagles remained hot on their tails. After tying the set 16-16, Edgewood University was relentless to close out the set and match with nine unanswered points.
   
- The Eagles outhit the Warriors .282-to-.095. They also held a decisive 7-to-1 edge in blocks.
 
- Nida Zukauskaite paced Edgewood University with 13 kills on a .250 hitting percentage.
 
- Mia Hinkamper continued to roll in the back row with 26 digs.
 
- Abbey Eivins and Kate Gunderson once again formed an effective setter tandem with 18 and 12 assists respectively.
 
- Payton Millin was unbreakable at the net with a match-high four blocks.
 
- Lydia Biggin did a bit of everything for Wisconsin Lutheran with 14 kills, nine digs, an ace, and a block.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The 13 wins in conference action is the most the Eagles have had in any one season.
 
- The last time Edgewood University finished undefeated in conference play was the 2015 season.
 
- The Eagles concluded their regular season on a 13-match winning streak.
 
UP NEXT
With the weekend off, Edgewood University turns its attention to the NACC Tournament Quarterfinal. As the top overall seed, they will host the eighth seed at the Todd Wehr Edgedome Tuesday. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. and opponent is to be determined.
