Box Score 2 WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles women's tennis squad headed to southeastern Wisconsin this weekend for the ITA Regionals and Midwest Invite. The doubles tandem of
Cecile Fuchs and
Evelyn Taylor made a deep run in ITA Doubles, while
Madelyn Connaughty and
Ellie Murphy reached the finals of Midwest Invite Doubles A.
ITA MIDWEST REGIONALS NOTES
- Fuchs and Taylor both reached the second round in singles. Fuchs earned a bye as the 17 seed in the tournament before falling to Kaya De Bruijn of Gustavus Adolphus in 6-4, 6-4 fashion. Taylor downed Megan Griswold of UW-Whitewater with a 7-5, 6-3 showing and battled to the very end versus Isa Voinescu of Grinnell, falling 7-5, 4-6, 5-10.
- Murphy and
Jewel Lindwall also took part in singles. Murphy lost to Hannah Cady from UW-La Crosse 6-2, 6-3, while Lindwall dropped to UW-La Crosse's Shelby Roth 6-1, 6-0.
- Fuchs and Taylor earned a bye in the first round of ITA doubles, then defeated Martia Gracia and Mishell Benitz of St. Scholastica 8-4. They kicked off Saturday with a bit of sibling rivalry, as they defeated Samantha Fuchs and Clare Palen from UW-Eau Claire 8-3 in the round of 16. Their run came to an end in the quarterfinals, losing to Allison Szalay and Molly Austin of Gustavus Adolphus 8-2.
- Lindwall and
Maddy Coopmans advanced to the second round of ITA Doubles by defeating Reese Williams and Chihio Ono of Wartburg 8-3. They fell just short of the round of 16, dropping an 8-6 affair to Abby Stubel and Jay Mascardo of Luther.
MIDWEST INVITE NOTES
- Coopmans and Connaughty each advanced to the second round of their respective brackets. Coopmans defeated Claudia Curtis of UW-Superior 6-3, 6-4 before dropping a 6-3, 2-6, 10-2 thriller to Kira Young from St. Benedict in Bracket A. Connaughty downed Coilee Hynek of Simpson 6-4, 6-3 to play on in Bracket B, but fell short in a 6-0, 4-6, 10-4 affair versus Bruna Costa of Luther.

Christina Ekkela and
Cassie Henderson participated in Bracket C and Bracket D respectively. Ekkela dropped a tense 6-4, 1-6, 11-9 battle to Izzy Schmiesing of UW-La Crosse, while Henderson lost 6-1, 6-1 to Luther's Lot Van Den Broek.
- Murphy and Connaughty played to the bitter end in Doubles Bracket A. They kicked things off with a dominating 8-1 win over Savannah Haugen and Talia Chait from Macalester, then claimed another victory in a hard-fought 8-6 affair versus Tori Johnson and Bail Sinwell of Wartburg to advance to the semifinals. There, they blanked Mary Shogren and Tea Armstrong of UW-Eau Claire 8-0, then gave UW-La Crosse's Izzy Schmiesing and Kate Townsend everything they could handle in an 8-5 defeat in finals.
- Ekkela and Henderson earned a bye to round two in Doubles Bracket B, before falling to Rafaela Tavares and Van Den Broek of Luther 8-2.
CONSOLATION NOTES
- Henderson and Ekkela each participated in the Consolation A Bracket. Henderson knocked off Maddie Haskell of Simpson 8-3 then fell 8-2 to Peyton Kopel from St. Benedict. Ekkela battled with a familiar face in Griswold from UW-Whitewater, where she lost 8-2.
- Lindwall and Coopmans competed in doubles, dropping a 8-5 battle to UW Superior's Andreina Tejada and Araujo De Barros.
UP NEXT
The Eagles return to their regularly scheduled Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) slate as they start their final three-match stretch of the conference regular season. They'll hit the road to travel up to Fond du Lac, Wis. Friday afternoon to face the Marian Sabres. Edgewood College holds a 17-0 advantage in the series all-time against the Sabres.
