Eagles Women's Tennis Preview

The Edgewood College Women’s Tennis team is heading into 2023 by returning the majority of their team from last year's NACC runner-ups. Kevin Friend enters his second season at the helm of the program as they seek to continue their tradition of success after a 13-9, 7-1 finish in 2022-23.

“Going into year two, I have high hopes and clear expectations for our women's team,” said head coach Kevin Friend. "We are fortunate enough to have eight returners that have an entire year of experience playing together. We all went through the ups and downs from last year together, which I believe will help us achieve even more this season. I can tell that the team is very ready to start competing in matches, and I can't wait!  

The Eagles were tabbed to finish second in the NACC this season in the conference preseason poll.  The squad earned 176 points and three first place votes. Defending regular season and tournament champion Concordia Wisconsin topped the poll with 17 first place votes and 197 points. Wisconsin Lutheran and St. Norbert rounded out the top four with 148 and 132 points respectively.

Fall 2023 Women's Tennis Schedule

The Eagles are set to play 11 matches throughout the fall season, beginning with a non-conference match at Wheaton College on Thursday, September 1, before opening conference play with a trip to Marian on Wednesday, September 6  The squad will travel to Whitewater, Wis. to participate in the ITA Midwest Regional from September 22 to September 25.  Edgewood College will wrap up their fall slate with a home tilt against Concordia Chicago. They will battle with defending conference champion Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday, September 16.

4 - The number of All-NACC athletes returning this year. Cecile Fuchs, Ellie Murphy, Maddie Coopmans, and Jewel Lindwall received singles and doubles recognition.

7 - The Eagles won 9-0 in all seven of their NACC victories last season.

8-0 - Maddie Coopmans went 8-0 in singles during NACC regular season contests

5-1 - Cecile Fuchs and Ellie Murphy were 5-1 as a tandem in NACC play as the top doubles pairing.
