Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Pioneers push past Eagles in non-conference action

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles women's volleyball squad entered their first match of the final week of the regular season Tuesday night. They battled with the UW-Platteville Pioneers, receiving votes in the latest AVCA national poll, in their first of three tune ups for the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament. The Eagles (19-9) claimed the first set over the Pioneers (20-7), but UW-Platteville would take three-straight for a 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-13, 25-15) victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pioneers had command early with a 10-4 start, but the Edgewood College block game kicked in to grind down the advantage with a 12-6 stretch to turn the first set into a dead heat. Key blocks helped the Eagles to their lone set victory of the set, fueling an 8-2 run for a 25-22 victory.

- Edgewood College hung around in the opening salvos of the second frame, but a 7-1 rally pushed UW-Platteville to a 14-7 advantage. Three points straight would cut the lead down to three, but a 7-1 reply by the Pioneers would effectively even the match.

- The third set proved to be a similar story to the second. The Eagles kept pace early, but a 10-1 barrage propelled UW-Platteville to a 20-10 advantage and in firm control of the match with a 2-1 lead.

- The Pioneers carried momentum into the fourth, jumping out to a 9-2 mark. Edgewood College would never lead outside of the very first point of the frame, and the hosts slammed the door on the set and match with six unanswered points.

- Abigail Hoffmann put together a strong outing. She earned a 10-kill, 15-assist, 10-dig triple-double with four blocks.

- Hannah Clark and Corrin Harrington each had three blocks apiece.

- Abbey Eivins continued a strong stretch of play with 12 assists and 11 digs.

- Jennacy Wille earned a team-high 14 digs, while Ashley Bruehlman continued to be a key part of the offense with 10 kills.

- Kierney McDonald led both teams with six blocks. Three from UW-Platteville recorded double-digit kills.

- Emma Carlson swung for 11 kills and dug 15 attacks.

- The Pioneers held advantages in all major statistical categories, including hitting percentage (.227-to-.127) and kills (50-to-39). They also had an impressive service game, tallying nine aces to the Eagles three.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Hoffmann's triple double was her fourth of the season. Her triple-doubles are good for a tie for seventh on the season nationally at the Division III level.

- Harrington's three blocks were a single match season high for the blocker.
