MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's volleyball squad continued their 2022 slate Friday evening. They played host to the Benedictine Eagles in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) battle at the Edgedome. The Edgewood College (7-7, 2-1 NACC) claimed momentum back at the right time in the fourth set to take home a 3-1 (25-20, 25-20, 21-25, 25-22) victory over Benedictine (6-7 1-2) in the battle of the Eagles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The avian squads tussled back and forth in the early goings of the match, with Edgewood College going on a 7-0 run with a pair of aces from
Taylor Salmon to take a 15-9 lead. Benedictine replied with a 5-0 sprint to come within a point, but Edgewood College answered back with a 5-2 burst to sit at 20-16 and coast to a 25-20 victory.
- Edgewood College roared off the blocks in set two, taking a commanding 14-4 advantage. Benedictine proved their mettle with an 11-5 response to close within 19-15 of Edgewood College. The early rally would prove to be enough for Edgewood College, as they once against closed out the set trading points with Benedictine.
- Edgewood College would build up to a slim 11-9 lead in set three, but a 5-1 run would put Benedictine ahead 14-12. Benedictine would hold onto the lead until a 4-0 Edgewood College run would put them tied at 21 all with their conference foe, but three Edgewood College errors would help hand Benedictine the set.
- The teams would trade small leads throughout the fourth frame, with Edgewood College taking a 13-11 edge off of a 3-0 run. Benedictine would promptly tie it up at 13 all and the squads bounced points back and forth. Benedictine would seemingly take momentum in the match with a 5-1 run to take a 20-17 edge late, but Edgewood College would keep pace. Down 22-20, Edgewood College would take the last five points in the set and match, with
Abigail Hoffmann claiming three kills in the crucial stretch.
- Salmon and Hoffmann would both post double-doubles, with Salmon earning 28 assists and 11 digs, while Hoffmann had a team-high 15 kills and 11 assists.

Abbey Falk played a critical part in Edgewood College's victory, hitting 13 kills with a .579 hitting percentage on 19 swings. She would also lead the team with six blocks.
- Edgewood College's serving proved to be essential in the victory, earning nine aces to Benedictine's three.
- The avian squads proved to be evenly matched, with Edgewood College winning the kills battle 51-49, digs 79-78, and both teams having 47 assists on the night. Benedictine had 11 blocks to Edgewood College's 10 and won the hitting battle .194 to .159.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Falk's .579 hitting percentage would be fourth on the all-time single match list for Edgewood College, though she fell shy of the 20 attempts threshold.
- The home squad has won the last two outings between the two squads.
