Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Eagles fall to Pioneers in defensive struggle

MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles women's volleyball squad returned home to the Edgedome Tuesday night. They played UW-Platteville in their second home match of the season. The Eagles (6-7) battled valiantly in a grinding 3-0 (17-25, 19-25, 23-25) loss to the Pioneers (14-4).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two squads bounced one-point leads back and forth until UW-Platteville took command of the set with a 7-0 rally. A 6-2 response from Edgewood College would put them within striking distance down 19-16, but the Pioneers found their extra gear to put away the set on a 6-1 burst.

- UW-Platteville quickly put away the Eagles in set two, a 13-4 hammer putting them up 17-9. Edgewood College would not go quietly, a 7-3 run putting them down just 23-19 to the Pioneers, but a quick two points would put UW-Platteville up 2-0 in the match.

- The Pioneers seemed to have control of the third set early, an 8-3 burst putting themselves up 12-6. A 6-3 rally by the Eagles helped keep them in the set, but a 4-1 response put UW-Platteville up 20-13. Edgewood College swiped the momentum, a 10-2 sprint featuring three blocks from Abbey Falk including a solo block. The Pioneers had just enough gas to get them over the finish line for the sweep, a 3-0 run giving them the set and match.

- Falk finished the evening with a team-high six blocks in a grueling defensive duel that saw UW-Platteville outhit the Eagles just .075 to .036.

- Falk and Abby Hoffmann finished tied with six kills to lead the squad, while Hoffmann added 12 assists and nine digs. Lea Bunch anchored the defensive effort with 13 digs.

- Claudia Johnson had six blocks for the Pioneers, while Emma Carlson led the match in both kills (10) and aces (4).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- UW-Platteville now leads the series since 1992 23-5, and the two teams have split their last two matches with both matches featuring road victors.

- The Eagles have now lost three straight matches.
