Box Score ST. PETER, MN – The Edgewood College Eagles women's tennis squad participated in the ITA Midwest Regional Championship and the Gustie Invite. All nine players participated in the event. A pair of Eagles reached the third round of the Gustie Invite.
ITA MIDWEST REGIONAL NOTES
- Three Edgewood College players participated in the ITA Midwest Regional singles draws.
Cecile Fuchs lost to Morgan Nelson of UW-Eau Claire 6-4, 6-4 in the second round after a bye.
Jewel Lindwall also fell 7-6 (5), 6-4 to Courtney Day of UW-Whitewater in round one.
Ellie Murphy dropped to Katie Kearney of UW-La Crosse in her first draw 6-5 (7), 6-0 (10-4).
- Fuchs and Murphy teamed up in doubles, winning 8-4 in round one before falling 8-4 in their second match. Lindwall teamed up with
Maddy Coopmans to also claim their first-round matchup 8-2 before dropping in their second match 8-4. Both pairs finished 1-1 for the weekend.
GUSTIE INVITE NOTES
- Coopmans and
Madelyn Connaughty had the deepest runs of any Eagles on the weekend. Both made it to the third round. Coopmans won 8-2 over Sedona Crosby of Macalester, then 8-3 over Erica Wing of St. Kate's, but fell to Abby Struble of Luther 8-3 in round three. Connaughty earned a bye round one, then took a 8-5 victory in her match against Nicole Henning of Grinnell. Sarah Ferguson of UW-Whitewater ended her run with an 8-2 loss in round three.

Evelyn Taylor won 8-1 over Hailey Beisel of UW-Eau Claire before falling 8-3 to Katie Townsend from UW-La Crosse to finish 1-1.

Callie Belschner and
Christina Ekkela finished 0-1 for the event, with Belschner falling in an 8-6 thriller against Emily Yehle of Bethany Lutheran. Ekkla lost by a similar margin, an 8-5 loss against Taylar Smith of Northwestern St. Paul.
Cassie Henderson earned a bye into round two where she also dropped in 8-4 fashion to Nichole Henning of Grinnell.
- Henderson and Connaughty teamed up in doubles in the event, going 1-1 after a 6-4 victory round one and a 6-3 loss in their second match. Taylor and Ekkela paired up and lost in round one 6-3.
UP NEXT
Edgewood College will return to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference player next Saturday. They will travel to River Forest, Ill. to face Concordia Chicago.
