Eagles comeback falls short at Falcons in NACC opener

MEQUON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles women's volleyball squad opened Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play Wednesday evening. They traveled to face Concordia Wisconsin, a finalist from the 2021 NACC Tournament. The Eagles (2-4, 0-1 NACC) fell to the Falcons (5-3, 1-0) 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 22-25, 25-23).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College took an 8-5 lead in the first frame, but Concordia Wisconsin flipped the script with an 8-5 rally to tie the set up at 13 all. The squads exchanged small runs until the Falcons forced the issue with a 4-1 sprint to make it 24-21. Edgewood College netted the next two points, but fell 1-0 in the match off of a bad set.

- The Falcons led 10-6 in the second set, but the Eagles offense got to work and brought the set back tied at 11 apiece. Concordia Wisconsin replied with a 4-0 run helped by Edgewood College errors. A 7-3 run from the Eagles knotted things up at 18 all, but the Falcons took command of the set and match with a 7-2 rally.

- Neither team would lead by more than three points throughout the third set, but the Edgewood College offense managed to force the issue while taking a 16-13 lead off of a 3-0 rally. Concordia Wisconsin battled back fiercely but would never again hold the lead in the set.  The Eagles closed out the set with a 4-1 run to keep the match alive.

- Edgewood College seemed to have momentum in the middle of the fourth set, a 6-0 run fueling a 13-9 advantage.  The Falcons would not be easily deterred, however, as a 5-1 rally pushed them back to a 17 all mark with the Eagles.  Blocks and Concordia Wisconsin mistakes gave Edgewood College a 21-19 lead, but the Falcons found their extra gear to close out the set and match on a 6-2 run.
