WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles women's volleyball squad continued their 2022 season Friday night. They traveled to face the Carroll University Pios in a non-conference matchup. The Eagles (3-4) bounced back from some close tough losses with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 26-24) victory over the Pios (4-6).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College and Carroll were neck and neck and sat at 13 all in the first set, but the Eagles carved out a 7-3 run and kept the Pios at arm's length for the rest of the 25-19 set.
- The second set played out similarly, down to the 25-19 final tally, with the two squads tied up at 10 apiece until a 7-3 Edgewood College rally put the Pios in a hole they couldn't recover from. Carroll hit .026 in the set.
- A 7-1 run by the Pios put them in the driver's seat 14-11 over the Eagles in the third frame. Edgewood College battled back valiantly, chipping away until tying it at 22-22. The two squads went into extra points in the set, but three errors in a row by Carroll proved costly as the Eagles won the set and match 26-24.

Abbey Maier contributed a season-high nine kills in the victory.
Ashley Bruehlman and
Katie Borchert continued to be an effective tandem, with Bruehlman hitting 11 kills and Borchert eight.

Taylor Salmon and
Abigail Hoffmann combined for 31 assists. Salmon tacked on a team-high three service aces, while Hoffman tied for second with Bruehlman for digs with eight.

Lea Bunch continued to be a key defensive piece for Edgewood College, leading the team with 17 digs.
- The Eagles outhit the Pios .219 to .167, and led the match in kills, assists, digs, and blocks.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College has now won two in a row over the Pios, and both teams have won 13 matches in the series since the 1991 season.
UP NEXT
The Eagles head over to La Crosse, Wis. for the UW-Lacrosse Invitational Saturday. They play a pair of neutral site matchups, starting with UW-River Falls at 1:00 p.m. and then Hamline scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. This will be the first time in the live stats era that Edgewood College and Hamline will meet, while the Eagles will seek their first victory over River Falls in their seventh attempt since 2004.
