Eagles take down Muskies, earn fourth straight NACC victory

PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles traveled to face the Lakeland Muskies in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) battle Tuesday evening. The match was the first of three NACC battles in the week for Edgewood College as well as a matchup of teams 3-1 in conference play. The Eagles (9-7, 4-1 NACC) dropped the first set, but gathered momentum and took three in a row to earn a 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-13) victory over the Muskies (9-10, 3-2).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The early first set was all Lakeland as they jumped out to a 7-2 lead. Edgewood College would close within 15-12 but would get no closer in the ill-fated 25-21 loss.

- A 4-1 starting rally by the Eagles set the tone for round two, as the Muskies would never lead in the frame. Edgewood College would lead by as much as 23-13 in the dominant frame, with Lakeland cutting the lead down to 25-17 before it was all set and done.

- The two squads traded points in the early goings of set three, with the Eagles holding onto a slim 10-9 lead at one point. Edgewood College found their second gear first with a 6-1 burst, and another 6-3 batch of points put them ahead 22-13 late. A valiant Muskies 8-2 effort gave them a glimmer of hope down 24-21, but a service error would clinch the set for the Eagles.

- Lakeland's last lead of the fourth and decisive set would be a 5-4 edge. Edgewood College would own the last frame, a 14-4 knock out punch putting them ahead 18-9. The Eagles would follow up with a 7-2 blow to finish the job and earn their fourth straight conference victory.

- Abigail Hoffmann was impressive with yet another triple-double (11 kills, 12 assists, 10 digs) on top of five service aces and four blocks. She had a .200 hitting percentage on 35 attacks.
