Eagles earn five-set thriller victory against Dubuque

MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles women's volleyball squad returned home Wednesday evening to play their second match in as many days. They hosted the Dubuque Spartans at the Edgedome. The Eagles (16-9) battled back from the brink to take down the Spartans (9-14) for their third-straight win in a 3-2 (25-15, 23-25, 18-25, 25-23, 15-7) thriller.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles led 13-2 in the first set and never looked back as they took a 25-15 opening victory with relative ease.

- A Spartan 6-1 run kicked off set two, before Edgewood College answered with an 8-0 rally. Dubuque eventually took control of the second set off the back of a 9-3 hook. The Eagles clawed back into the match with a 4-1 sprint to close within 24-23, but an error costed them the set.

- A 9-3 Spartan burst put them in control of the third set 14-8. Their lead was cut down to 19-16 late by Edgewood College, but Dubuque finished the set on a 6-2 run to put them within reach of the match.

- The Spartans and Eagles kept pace with one another throughout a hard-fought fourth set, with Dubuque holding small advantages until Edgewood College found another gear to force a fifth set off of a 7-2 run.

- Momentum seemed to be in the Eagles court to start the tiebreaker set as they held a 5-2 lead over Dubuque. Edgewood College punctuated the effort with a 5-1 rally to take a decisive 11-5 lead on their way to a 15-7 fifth set victory.
