ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Edgewood College Eagles women's volleyball squad entered the final weekend of the regular season with a Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) battle. They traveled to face the Rockford Regents. The Eagles (17-9, 9-2 NACC) swept the Regents (4-20, 1-10 NACC) 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-16) to win their fourth straight.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rockford seemed to have momentum at their back as they jumped out to a 15-9 lead off the back of a 7-1 run. Edgewood College replied with a 9-1 rally to take an 18-16 lead. The Regents would have one last gasp of a 3-0 run to earn a 19-18 edge, but a 4-1 reply by the Eagles kept their conference foes at arm's length on their way to a 25-23 victory.
- Edgewood College rolled out to a 10-3 advantage in set two and would never trail in the second frame. Rockford would close within 13-11, but a 6-2 run followed by a 6-0 finisher would put the set firmly in the Eagles' favor.
- Edgewood College started the last set on a 7-2 roll and would lead by as much as 11-4 before Rockford came to life with a 6-0 burst to close within one. The two tussled back and forth until the Eagles slammed the door shut on the Regents with an 11-2 rally to close out the set and match 25-16.
- Edgewood College ground down Rockford, winning the hitting battle .153 to .067.
