MADISON, Wis. – For the first time since October 2019, the Edgewood College Women's Volleyball team played in front of its home fans. With the roar of the crowd back inside the Todd Wehr Edgedome, the Eagles secured a 3-1 win over Carroll University to move to 5-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (5-1) trailed 24-20 in the opening set before rallying for a 27-25 win.
Grace Antlfinger played a huge role in the opening set win, serving up five aces, including two at the end to secure the set one victory.
- Carroll (1-5) returned the favor in the second set. The Pioneers trailed 21-17 before rallying to win the set 27-25. Edgewood College would take over from there, winning set three, 25-21, before rolling to a 25-12 win in the fourth set.
- The Eagles totaled 56 kills on the night, 16 from
Mackenzie Doherty and 12 from
Abbey Falk. Falk was outstanding in hitting .480 for the match, while adding six blocks.
Abigail Hoffmann also showcased her all-around ability with 10 kills, 15 assists, and six block assists of her own.
- The Edgewood College hitters were set up all night by Hoffman and
Taylor Salmon. Salmon delivered a career-best 36 assists and added 10 digs for a double-double, joining Doherty (16 kills, 13 digs) and Hoffman with double-doubles in the match.
- Reigning NACC Defensive Player of the Week
Lea Bunch recorded 26 digs for Edgewood College, while adding an ace. The Eagles served up 14 aces in the match, five from Antlfinger and
Lauren Glissendorf.
THE OPPOSITION
- Katie Jensen delivered 18 kills for Carroll, while hitting .515. Emily Schliesman dished out 32 assists.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College is off to a 5-1 start for the second time in program history, 1998 being the other year. The 1998 Eagles started 7-1.
UP NEXT
- A busy weekend for the Eagles will begin Friday with two matches at UW-Stevens Point. The first of those will be at 3 p.m. against Minnesota Morris, while Edgewood College will take on host UW-Stevens Point at 7 p.m.
