DECORAH, Iowa – The Edgewood College Women's Volleyball team started a season with a 4-0 record for just the second time in program history after defeating Luther College in the first of two matches on Saturday at the Ground Round Sugar Loaf Classic. The Eagles would fall against UW-River Falls in the second contest but are off to the best start in program history since 1996 after a 4-1 record over the first week.
EAGLES 3, LUTHER 1 (25-12, 25-22, 24-26, 25-15)
- Edgewood College opened its day with a dominant first set, winning 25-12 after hitting .393. They would go on to win the second and fourth sets in the match that moved their record to 4-0.
- After posting 20 kills in last night's win,
Mackenzie Doherty had another outstanding contest with 19 kills and a .326 attack percentage.
Abbey Falk joined Doherty with double-digit kills, registering 11 on just 18 chances, while committing zero errors for a .611 hitting performance. Falk added a couple of block assists in the win.

Lea Bunch is off to a terrific start in her freshman season and she added to that with a season-best 32-dig performance. Bunch added seven assists in the opening win.
- The setting duo of
Taylor Salmon and
Abigail Hoffmann delivered 41 combined assists with Salmon dishing out 25 of those. Salmon and Doherty each collected three aces, while
Amanda Carlson and
Lauren Glissendorf served up two each as the Eagles finished the win with 13 as a team.

Abbey Maier added eight kills for Edgewood College, who as a team finished with 55 kills and a .240 hitting match.
UW-RIVER FALLS 3, EAGLES 1 (25-17, 25-16, 21-25, 25-22)
- It was the opposite of the first match for the Eagles in the second of back-to-back contests as they won only one set, the third set, against UW-River Falls.
- Bunch again showed her ability as a defensive specialist with 24 more digs in a match the Eagles totaled 63 as a team. Dohery was the top hitter once again, registering 13 kills, but the Eagles hit just .109 as a team against the Falcons.
- Salmon dished out 16 assists and Hoffmann added 15.
- Sami Hilley led UW-River Falls with 11 kills, while four Falcons posted double-digit digs, led by Brook Voigt's 23. Haley Cuba was the Falcons primary setter with 33 assists.

- After five matches in Iowa to start the season, the Eagles are ready for the 2021 home opener on Wednesday night. Edgewood College will host Carroll University at 7 p.m. inside the Todd Wehr Edgedome. Masking is required for all in attendance.
