MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Women's Volleyball welcomed two quality opponents to the Todd Wehr Edgedome for a home triangular on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles started the day with a 3-1 setback in a battle of Eagles against UW-La Crosse before responding with a 3-1 win over Loras College in the final match. Loras defeated UW-La Crosse in the middle contest on Saturday.
EAGLES 3, LORAS 1 (27-25, 22-25, 25-17, 24-26)
- The comeback of the first set was huge for Edgewood College (10-4) in the 3-1 win over Loras. The Eagles trailed 15-6 in the opening set before soaring back for a 27-25 victory.
Mackenzie Doherty closed out the set with back-to-back kills.
- The all-around play of
Abigail Hoffmann played a big role in the win for the Eagles, who hit .200 as a team for the match. Hoffmann did a little bit of everything with nine kills, 20 assists, 20 digs, and five block assists in the win.
- The Eagles also received a double-double from
Taylor Salmon, who joined Hoffmann with 20-plus assists in the match. Salmon delivered 24 assists and added 14 digs.
Lea Bunch led the defensive effort with 26 digs, while the Eagles as a team totaled 12 blocks, five block assists each from Hoffmann and
Abbey Falk.
Corrin Harrington added four block assists, while Doherty had two, as well as two solo blocks.
- Doherty led the offense with 19 kills, hitting .269 for the match.
Amanda Carlson had a solid match as well with 13 kills, hitting .259.
- The Eagles closed out the match with three-straight points in the fourth set after falling behind 24-23. After calling a timeout, Eagles head coach
Paul Schlomer subbed in
Hannah Siebert who served up three-straight points.
UW-LA CROSSE 3, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 1 (26-28, 26-24, 25-18, 25-16)
- The first two sets in the battle of the Eagles needed more than 25 points to decide them. Edgewood College escaped with a 28-26 win in the opening set before UW-La Crosse bounced back at 26-24 in the second. UW-La Crosse controlled the rest of the match, winning in four sets.
- Carlson and Doherty each totaled 10 kills in the match, with Carlson hitting .368. Salmon delivered 20 assists and added 11 digs. Both Salmon and Hoffmann had double-doubles in each match as Hoffmann had 12 assists and 10 digs. Doherty also recorded a double-double in match two, posting 14 digs.
- Bunch recorded 22 digs for Edgewood College in the opener.
