FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Edgewood College Women's Volleyball team went on the road to take on Marian University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match on Tuesday night. After dropping a close first set, the Eagles responded with three-straight set wins for a 3-1 win over the Sabres, moving them to 2-0 in league play this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles (9-3, 2-0 NACC) were guided by three players who posted double-doubles on Tuesday evening.
Abigail Hoffmann was a dig shy of a triple-double as she registered a team-best 14 kills to go along with 13 assists and nine digs.
Taylor Salmon led the Eagles in both assists (26) and digs (16), while
Mackenzie Doherty had another great night with 13 kills, 15 digs, and four blocks, two of those solo.
- Marian (8-5, 1-1 NACC) built a 20-16 lead in the first set, but the Eagles tried their best to steal the opening set with a late rally. Edgewood College went on an 8-4 run to take a 24-23 lead before Marian gained three-straight points, going up 1-0 after the 26-24 set win.
- The Eagles only got better as the night went along, winning the second set 25-20 and the third in convincing fashion (25-14). The fourth set was another close one, with Edgewood College scoring the final three points for a 25-23 win.
Hannah Siebert helped close out the match with back-to-back kills for the win.
- After hitting .105 and .133 in the first two sets, the Eagles hitters started to roll down the stretch, connecting at a .303 for each of the final two sets. Hoffmann hit .361 on 36 attempts. Siebert was incredibly efficient in her nine chances as she posted an incredible .667 attack percentage.
- The Eagles won the battle at the net on Tuesday as well with 10 blocks compared to just two for Marina. Joining Doherty with two solo blocks was
Abbey Falk, while
Amanda Carlson added a solo block of her own. Falk also had three block assists, while Doherty and her sister
Raegan Doherty each had two block assists.
-
Lauren Glissendorf and
Lea Bunch joined
Mackenzie Doherty and Salmon with double-digit digs, adding to the strong defensive effort from Edgewood College. Glissendorf posted a career-best 14 digs, while Bunch added 13. Those four were a big reason Marian hit just .107 for the evening.
THE OPPOSITION
- Marian received a 43-assist performance from Anna Tapia. Kaitlyn Merrill and Reagan Jasica were the Sabres top two hitters with 14 and 12 kills, respectively.
