MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Women's Volleyball team did something it hadn't done since the 2013 season on Wednesday night: defeat a ranked opponent. The Eagles welcomed No. 25 Concordia University Wisconsin to the Todd Wehr Edgedome and outlasted the Falcons in a five-set thriller. The match was the NACC opener for both teams as the Eagles were led by
Mackenzie Doherty and her 22-kill performance.
EAGLES 3, FALCONS 2 (15-25, 25-23, 26-24, 16-25, 17-15)
- Twice during the last set the Eagles (8-3, 1-0 NACC) were one point away from falling as Concordia Wisconsin built a 14-13 lead and a 15-14 lead.
Abbey Falk had the kill to tie things up at 14-14 and the Falcons had an attack error to even things back up at 15-15.

Lauren Glissendorf delivered her best serve of the night with the final set tied at 15 as she served up an ace to put the Eagles at match point. The Falcons (3-2, 0-1 NACC) again had an attack error, allowing the Eagles their first win over a ranked team since early in the 2013 season.
- The Eagles set wins were all by two points on Wednesday night as they took the second set 25-23 and the third set 26-24 before closing it out in the fifth at 17-15. The turning point in the match came in the second set as the Eagles, who lost the opening set 25-15, trailed 18-14 in the second set.
Abigail Hoffmann went on a nice service run to bring the score back to 18-18.
- The Falcons answered with a 3-0 run in the second set to go back up 21-18 but the Eagles never backed down. They closed the set on a 7-2 run, including scoring the last three points, the final one a kill from Doherty.
Corrin Harrington had a massive solo block to put the Eagles in front, 24-23, in the second set.
- The third set was also a nail biter with
Abbey Falk closing it out with back-to-back kills, pushing the Eagles one set win away from the big NACC win.
- The Doherty sisters were on point Wednesday night with Mackenzie recording 22 kills, while
Raegan Doherty checked in with a career-best 10 kills. Both players hit over .250 for the match, Mackenzie at .269 and Raegan at .280.

Taylor Salmon posted a double-double with 27 assists and 12 digs, while Hoffmann dished out 20 assists and added 10 digs for a double-double of her own.
Lea Bunch led the way defensively with 20 digs with Glissendorf chipping in with 13. Falk totaled four block assists in the match.
THE OPPOSITION
- Lauren Shroba totaled 15 kills and hit .400 to pace the Falcons. Sierra Lee had 28 assists with Makenzie Vertz adding 20 helpers.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles defeated No. 5 Christopher Newport in four sets on August 31, 2013 for the last win over a ranked team.
- CUW joined the rankings on Tuesday after picking up two wins over Top 25 teams last weekend.

- The Eagles have a well-deserved weekend off before heading to Marian University for another NACC tilt next Tuesday night. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start at Sadoff Gymnasium in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
