Eagles Efficient in Five-Set Win over Dominican

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Edgewood College Women's Volleyball team is no stranger to five-set matches. For the eighth time this season, and for the third-straight match, the Eagles went to a fifth set, and this time they came away a winner with a 3-2 win over Dominican University on Friday night. The win snaps a two-match skid, both of those setbacks also five-set contests.

EAGLES 3, STARS 2 (25-14, 17-25, 20-25, 25-16, 15-13)
- Dominican (6-15, 3-5 NACC) built a 6-2 lead in the final set before the Eagles (14-7, 5-3 NACC) posted a 6-0 run with Lea Bunch serving. Bunch served up one ace during the run, while Mackenzie Doherty and Abigail Hoffmann each connected on two kills with Amanda Carlson adding one.

- Dominican fought back and tied the match at 12-12 before Edgewood College closed the match on a 3-1 run. Abbey Falk broke the tie with a kill and Hannah Siebert put the Eagles within one point of a win with a kill of her own. The match was won on an attack error by the Stars.
 
- Abbey Maier had her best match of the season for Edgewood College. She was locked in all night, posting a season-best 16 kills on a ridiculous .520 hitting night. As a team, Edgewood College posted its second-best hitting night of the season at .310. Doherty added 15 kills, Hoffmann chipped in nine and Falk posted seven. Corrin Harrington and Hanna Siebert each totaled four kills on incredibly efficient performances. Harrington was perfect in her four attempts, while Siebert hit .500.

- The Eagles started the night with a dominant 25-14 set one win where they hit .423. Carlson led the way in that set with a perfect four-kill performance to get the Eagles off to a 1-0 lead. Edgewood College hit over .360 in four-of-five sets, including .375 in the clinching fifth.

- Dominican responded with wins in sets two and three by scores of 25-17 and 25-20, respectively. Edgewood College rolled in the fourth set before securing the win in the fifth.

- Falk led the defensive effort for the Eagles with seven blocks assists as the Eagles totaled 10 blocks as a team. Doherty chipped in with four block assists, while Hoffmann added three. Bunch played well in the back row with 21 digs.

- Taylor Salmon and Hoffmann combined for 52 assists with Salmon delivering 29 and Hoffmann adding 23.

THE OPPOSITION
- Gabija Sinickaite led Dominican with 15 kills on a .433 hitting effort. Adeleen Dunker delivered 39 of the Star's 41 assists for the match. As a team, Dominican hit .195 compared to the .310 performance from the Eagles.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College has now played eight five-set matches this season. The Eagles own a 5-3 record in those matches. Four of the Eagles eight NACC matches have gone five sets and they are 2-2 in those five-set contests. The other five-set NACC win came one month ago to the date over then No. 25 Concordia University Wisconsin.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will remain in the Prairie State for another NACC match tomorrow. The Eagles will take on one of the league's co-leaders, Aurora University, at noon.
