Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Seefeld's free throws help Eagles steal NACC win from Stars

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Edgewood College Men's Basketball team trailed Dominican University for all but nine seconds in the second half of Tuesday's NACC contest in River Forest, Illinois. Fortunately for the Eagles, those seconds were the final nine as Ben Seefeld hit a pair of late free throws to give Edgewood College a 67-66 road victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles (7-13, 6-9 NACC) defense was outstanding down the stretch, holding Dominican scoreless for the final 4:49. The sparked a 7-0 run, which was capped off by the Seefeld free throws with nine seconds remaining. Seefeld went to the line after getting fouled on a rebound after yet another Eagles stop in the closing minutes. Dominican went 0-for-6 from the floor and the Eagles forced one turnover over the final 4:49 of smothering defense.

- Seefeld finished the night with a game-high 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting. The junior forward was 2-for-4 from 3-point range and went 5-for-6 from the foul line. It was Seefeld's eighth 20-point effort this season and first since January 21, when he poured in 24 against these Stars in Madison.

- After the Seefeld free throws to give the Eagles the lead, Dominican did have a chance at the win on its final possession. The Stars got a decent look from about 17 feet, but couldn't connect, allowing Edgewood College to steal the league win.

- The Eagles scored the game's first four points and held the lead a few times early, but after Dominican (8-12, 4-11 NACC) tied the game a 9-9 with 13:58 left in the first half, Edgewood College wouldn't lead again until the late Seefeld free throws. The largest Dominican lead of the night was nine points on a couple of different occasions, including a 59-50 advantage with 8:30 left.

- Edgewood College got it done defensively on Tuesday night, holding Dominican to 66 points, including just 28 in the second half. The Stars shot 34.5 percent in the second half after connecting on 48 percent in the first 20 minutes.

- Ryan Buss started the game-ending 7-0 run for Edgewood College with a 3-point make with 4:34 left. The two teams went scoreless for the next couple of minutes until Jake Negus got to the rim and scored with 2:10 remaining, cutting the Stars lead to 66-65.

- Negus finished the game with 19 points for Edgewood College, while also distributing a team-leading four assists. Buss added 13 points and grabbed a team-best seven rebounds. The Eagles finished the game shooting 46.6 percent (27-for-58) from the floor.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Seefeld and Negus have feasted on the Stars over the past two seasons. Seefeld is averaging 22 points per game with three 20-plus efforts against Dominican over the last four meetings, while Negus is averaging 19.8 points per game during those four games. Most importantly, the Eagles have swept the Stars each of the last two seasons.

THE OPPOSITION
- Jackson Smith and Tyler Guest led the way for the Stars with 24 and 17 points, respectively. Smith was 8-for-13 from the floor, while Guest finished 7-for-14. Both Smith and Guest collected six rebounds.
