Marian's buzzer-beater stuns Eagles

MADISON, Wis. – Justin Wilson of Marian University went coast-to-coast in the final seconds and made a contested jumper in the paint at the buzzer, resulting in a one-point setback for the Edgewood College Men's Basketball team on Saturday. The Eagles erased a seven-point halftime deficit in a game that saw both teams make several great plays down the stretch.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (7-14, 6-10 NACC) started the second half on a 10-0 run to go up 41-38, and from that point on neither team could gain much separation. Marian went up five on a few occasions in the second half, but the Eagles kept responding and set up a 65-65 tie with 2:11 remaining after a Ryan Buss layup.

- The Eagles got a stop on their next defensive possession and Jake Negus got to the line with 1:36, burying both free throws to give them a 67-65 lead. Marian (4-17, 3-13 NACC) responded a couple trips later with a jumper through contact by DeAndre Ross with 39 seconds left. Ross would make the free throw to give the Sabres a 68-67 lead.

- It was Negus turn to respond as he hit a layup 10 seconds later to push the Eagles back in front, 69-68. Wilson would hit a layup with 12 seconds left to put Marian in the lead, but Negus again drew contact with six seconds left and calmly drained two free throws to give the Eagles a 71-70 lead.

- That set up Wilson's game-winner as he drove coast-to-coast and finished, resulting in the 72-71 final.

- Negus finished with 17 points to lead the Eagles offensively, including going 9-for-9 from the charity stripe. Ben Seefeld added 15 points, while Ryan Buss scored 14 to go along with nine rebounds. Both Avery Lyons and Jake Graf chipped in nine points.

- The 3-point line proved to be a big difference on Saturday with Marian making 9-of-22 from deep, while Edgewood College connected on just 4-of-20 from long range.

THE OPPOSITION
- Wilson led the Sabres with 17 pionts, while Ross and Sam Greenthal came off the bench to add 12 and 10, respectively. The Sabres reserves outscored the Eagles, 45-12, on Saturday.
