Free Throw shooting key in Eagles NACC win over Dominican

MADISON, Wis. – In a game that featured 42 fouls and 57 combined free throw attempts, it was likely the team who shot better from the free throw line would came away with a victory. That is exactly what happened for the Edgewood College Men's Basketball team on Tuesday night, as the Eagles made 26-of-28 from the charity stripe in an 86-76 NACC win over Dominican University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles (5-11, 4-7 NACC) offense was again balanced in the win with four players reaching double figures. Ben Seefeld led the way with 24, while Jake Negus poured in 20 points as he continues to get closer to the 1,000-point club (now 17 points shy). Ryan Buss added 13 and Matthew Myers scored 10 in the league win.

- Edgewood College held a game-high 13-point lead (51-38) early in the second half with 16:07 left in regulation before Dominican went on a 15-2 run to tie the game at 53-53 over the next three minutes.

- The Eagles and Stars (8-8, 4-7 NACC) went back-and-forth from that point for a while with Edgewood College holding a 66-64 lead with 5:56 left in regulation. That is when Max Fernholz buried two huge 3-point shots for the Eagles over their next three possessions to push them up 72-64.

- Edgewood College would make just one more field goal the rest of the way, a layup from Buss, but that was largely due to them getting to the line and knocking down free throws. The Eagles were 8-of-8 from the free throw line in the first half before making 18-of-20 after the break. Dominican shot just 65.5 percent (19-for-29) from the line on Tuesday night.

- The Eagles also got it done on the glass, tying a season-high with 48 rebounds and out-rebounding the Starts, 48-38. Negus totaled 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season, while Myers and Jacob Miller each pulled down a career-high nine rebounds. The Eagles perimeter player did an outstanding job on the glass Tuesday night.

- Edgewood College held Dominican to 35.7 percent shooting in the first half, while connecting on 45.5 percent of its shots. The Eagles finished the game shooting 41.5 percent from the floor, while holding Dominican to a 39.1 percent effort.

- Negus made 12-of-14 at the line for the Eagles, while every other player shot 100 percent. Seefeld was 7-for-7, Myers 4-for-4, Avery Lyons 2-for-2, and Buss made his only free throw attempt to convert a 3-point play in the second half.

THE OPPOSITION
- Luke McDermott was one of four Stars players in double figures on Tuesday, scoring 19 points. Jackson Smith, the Stars leading scorer on the season, totaled 17 points but was held to just five after the break. Tyler Guest and Dylan Anderson each added 13 with Guest posting a double-double, grabbing 11 rebounds.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles are set for a four-game road stretch beginning Saturday night at MSOE. Edgewood College and the Raiders will start at 7 p.m. at the Kern Center in Milwaukee.
