MILWAUKEE – The Edgewood College Men's Basketball team went on the road for the first time in three weeks on Saturday evening, visiting MSOE for a NACC showdown. The host Raiders raced out to a 12-2 lead and never looked back, dealing the Eagles a 71-59 setback.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Raiders (10-7, 7-5 NACC) 12-2 run extended over the first six minutes as Edgewood College started cold from the field. MSOE led by 15 at a couple different points in the first half before taking a 37-26 lead into the break.
- Edgewood College (5-12, 4-8 NACC) took 18 3-point shots in the opening half, but unfortunately connected on just four of those (22.2 percent).
Jake Negus had seven points in the first half, while
Max Fernholz chipped in six by making 2-of-4 from 3-point range.
- The Eagles got the first bucket of the second half, a layup by Negus, but the Raiders lead would hold in double figures for most of the final 20 minutes. The Raiders held a game-high 23-point lead midway through the second half, before the Eagles starting cutting into the lead, resulting in the 12-point setback.
- Negus finished the night with 16 points, moving him to within one point of becoming the 19th Edgewood College Men's Basketball player to reach 1,000 career points. Fernholz, who made three shots from 3-point range, was one of three Eagles to add nine points with
Ben Seefeld and
Jake Graf joining him.
- Edgewood College shot just 39 percent (23-for-59) from the floor and 23.1 percent (6-for-26) from 3-point range. MSOE also struggled from deep, making just 3-of-17 (17.6 percent), but the Raiders shot well from inside the arc and finished the game 50.9 percent (28-for-55) from the floor. MSOE also won the rebounding battle, 39-28.
THE OPPOSITION
- Matthew Kirmse led the Raiders with an efficient 26-point showing on Saturday. Kirmse was 10-for-13 from the floor and added a game-high six rebounds.
