Eagles fall to Red Hawks in close match

RIPON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Women's Volleyball team battled Ripon College deep into a fifth set before coming up short 3-2 in their fifth non-conference contest of the season. Despite the loss, six Eagles finished the night with career-best marks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In a back and forth battle, Edgewood College (1-4) dropped a close set one, 19-25, but picked up a win in the second set, 25-15. The Eagles dropped set three, 19-25, but came through strong when it mattered, forcing a fifth and final set with a 25-18 win in the fourth. Ripon College (2-2) barely held off the Eagles to close out the fifth set 13-15.

- The second set of the contest proved to be quite impressive, as the Eagles went on a 10-0 run early on. The combination of kills from four different Eagles, a service ace from Ella Carpenter, and various Ripon errors gave the Edgewood College the early 13-4 lead. The Eagles recorded a match best .270 hitting percentage in set two, and held Ripon to a mere .097 hitting percentage.

- The Eagles crucial fourth set victory was solidified off the serve of Brittany Sager. The 5-0 run began off a kill from Carpenter, putting the Eagles up 20-17. Two Red Hawk errors, a kill from Mackenzie Doherty, and block from Megan Schwartz and Bridget Daniels put Edgewood College up 24-17. The final set point would come off another Schwartz, Daniels block, forcing the fifth set.

- Doherty led the Eagles offense and posted the second double-double of her career, with 13 kills and 13 digs. Sager and Carpenter were in double figures in digs with 24 and 18, respectively. Sarah Uczen also reached double-digits, posting 13 digs on the night.

- Seghan Northey recorded a career-best performance, with 11 kills and six blocks. Newcomers Abbey Maier (11 kills), Daniels (three blocks), Amanda Carlson (six kills, three digs), and Kennedy Crain (six kills, six digs), all finished the night with career-bests.
