Eagles sweep Cougars behind second half surge

MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Men's Basketball team was firing in all cylinders on Thursday night in a 90-72 victory over Concordia Chicago. The Eagles opened up a 26-point second half lead in their final regular season game in the Todd Wehr Edgedome. The Eagles improve to 10-14 overall and 10-9 in NACC play behind a strong rebounding effort.

 HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College and Concordia Chicago went back and forth, trading buckets for the first seven minutes of action, until Sy Staver connected on a jumper in the paint, sparking the Eagles first run of the night.

- Through the end of the first half, the Eagles would increase their lead to 10 points multiple times, as Ryan Buss dropped seven points in just over two minutes. In the final seconds of the first half, a Jake Negus jumper from short range gave the Eagles a comfortable 13-point lead (47-34) heading into the locker room.

- The second half began in a similar fashion to the first, but the Eagles once again got things going seven minutes in, as McClain Steffens got things rolling with a jumper. Edgewood College busted things open, going on a 26-6 scoring run that elapsed 7:53 and featured seven different Eagles.

- Edgewood College finished the game shooting 52.9 percent (36-of-68) from the floor, while holding Concordia Chicago to just 38.9 percent shooting (28-of-72) and 20 percent (3-of-15) from beyond the arc.

- The Eagles came away with a strong effort on the boards, pulling down 47 to Concordia Chicago's 34. Staver led Edgewood College with nine rebounds and Emil Radisevic wasn't far behind, pulling down seven of his own.

- Jake Negus led all players with 20 points and Ben Seefeld finished with 14 points. Ryan Buss put together a career-night with two career-high marks of 11 points and six rebounds. The Eagles spread the ball well as four players each owned three assists.

- Notably, Jacob Miller pulled down a season-best six rebounds, while freshman Eli Hartjes finished with a career-best three rebounds.

THE OPPOSITION
- Four Cougars finished in double-figures, as Jalen Meeks owned a team-high 19 points, Mitchell Pelissier finished with 15 points, and Hassan Basbous came away with 13 points on the night. Landen Gladney recorded a 10-rebound, 13-point double-double.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- With the victory, Edgewood College now sits in a three-way tie for fifth place in the NACC standings, alongside Benedictine and Illinois Tech. Edgewood College (10-9), Illinois Tech (10-9), and Wisconsin Lutheran (9-10) will all turn to their final matchup of the regular season to decide which two teams will earn a spot in the NACC tournament.

- Edgewood College will head to Wisconsin Lutheran College on Saturday. Action is set to begin 3:15 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wis.
