MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Men's Basketball team dropped a 75-67 contest with Aurora University Tuesday night at the Todd Wehr Edgedome.
Emil Radisevic posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Eagles, who fell to 9-9 in league play with the setback.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was the visiting Spartans who started off strong Tuesday, posting a 17-10 lead and forcing an Eagles timeout with 12:25 to go in the opening half. The Spartans lead grew to a game-high 10 (23-13) with 10:58 to go in the half before the Eagles played themselves back into it.
- Edgewood College (9-14, 9-9 NACC) took its only lead of the night with 1:42 remaining in the half after a lay in from
Tyler Lemke. The Spartans closed the half on a 4-0 run, making the score 42-40 in favor of Aurora. Radisevic paced the Eagles in the opening half with 10 points and five rebounds, including making both of his 3-point attempts.
- The Spartans maintained a single-digit lead throughout the second half with Aurora going up 63-55 with 6:33 to play. The Eagles went on a 7-0 run, beginning with four straight free throws from
Jake Negus and a 3-point make from Radisevic, to cut the Spartans lead to 63-62 with 5:30 to play. The Spartans answered, making a free throw and following that with a 3-pointer from Tyler Carlson to go back up five (67-62) with 4:16 left on the clock.
- Aurora would push its lead to 71-64 with two minutes left before a Lemke 3 got the Eagles within four. That would be as close as it would get as the Spartans left the Edgedome with the eight-point victory.
- Negus scored 14 points to lead the Eagles, while
Ben Seefeld joined Radisevic with 13. Lemke added 11 and five rebounds and
Sy Staver dished out seven assists and also pulled down five boards.
- The Eagles shot just 28.8 percent from the floor in the second half. Both teams shot well from the free throw line, Aurora making 16-of-18 (88.9 percent) and the Eagles countering with 11-of-12 (91.7 percent) shooting.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The loss drops Edgewood College to 9-9 in league play where it is currently tied with Wisconsin Lutheran for the sixth seed in the NACC Tournament (six teams qualify). Each team trails current fifth-seed Illinois Tech (9-8) by a half game and current fourth-seed Aurora (10-8) by a game. The Eagles and Warriors each have two contests left, including a matchup against one another Saturday.
THE OPPOSITION
- The Spartans were paced by Bailey Vance who scored 16 points to go along with 12 rebounds for the double-double. Terrell Wilson scored 13 and Max Vickers added 12 for Aurora.
