UW-Whitewater edges Eagles in four

MADISON, Wis – The Edgewood College Women's Volleyball team showed grit and determination in a four-set loss to No. 13 UW-Whitewater Tuesday night. Despite the 3-1 (25-18, 17-25, 25-23, 25-18) loss, the Eagles electrified the Edgedome, holding the Warhawks to a .160 hitting percentage and collecting 44 kills of their own.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After dropping a close first set (25-18), Edgewood College (4-12) managed a .333 hitting percentage in a second set victory. The Eagles winning set was headlined by Abbey Maier and Seghan Northey who recorded four and three kills respectively.

- The second set victory by the Eagles started off with 3 straight points, two kills from Maier and a service ace from Brittany Sager. Edgewood College's set victory was steady and aggressive, not allowing UW-Whitewater to take the lead or tie at any point in the set. Mackenzie Doherty collected an impressive seven digs in the set, while Sarah Uczen added five.

- Despite dropping a close third set, the Eagles stunned the Warhawks, forcing 10 ties and four lead changes in the nail biter. Eight different Eagles recorded kills in the set, while seven combined for 23 digs.

- Doherty had a strong game, recording her fourth double-double of the season with 11 kills and a career-high 18 digs. Sager and Taylor Salmon combined for 24 of the Eagles 42 assists, notching 21 and 13 respectively. Uczen totaled 20 digs on the night.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles are the first team to take a set from the Warhawks this season, as MSOE, Lakeland, and Dominican all fell in three sets.

- The last time Edgewood College took a set from a ranked opponent was against UW-Stevens Point on October 15, 2016.

- Abbey Maier and Hannah Wirag both notched career-high digs as Wirag notched 12 and Maier managed six on the night.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will play three more matches at home this week, starting with Dominican University on Friday and ending the weekend with the second Edgewood College Triangular. Action against the Stars will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Todd Wehr Edgedome.
