CHICAGO, Ill. – After a thrilling win on Friday night the Edgewood College volleyball team continued to show energy and strength in their sixth conference match of the season. The Edgewood College volleyball team is on a roll, winning their fifth-straight match with a sweep of Illinois Tech on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles controlled the NACC matchup with the Scarlet Hawks from the beginning in a 25-15, 31-29, 25-20 sweep.
Edgewood College (7-11, 4-2 NACC) got off to a quick lead early on, taking a 19-11 lead in the first set. Although Illinois Tech (3-10, 1-3 NACC) continued to score, the Eagles expertly kept the Scarlet Hawks at bay. Between kills from Cole Jordee, Mackenzie Doherty, Lizzie Lightner, and errors committed by Illinois Tech, the Eagles got off to 1-0 lead.
The Eagles showed they have what it takes offensively and defensively in a second set that featured 10 tie scores, and six lead changes. Overall, a match-high 35 digs were recorded by the Eagles in the second set, and seven different eagles recorded kills in the longest set of the season. Illinois Tech and Edgewood College went back and forth in the end of the set, playing seven set points before the Eagles would come away with the win on an attack error by Illinois Tech.
In the final set of the afternoon, the Eagles recorded a match-high hitting percentage of .258 behind five kills from Doherty. Not once did Edgewood College give up the lead, after winning the first two points of the set. Ella Carpenter and Pfiefer each recorded an ace in the set, while Pfeifer and Nichole Schaeve combined for nine digs.
Wiskow had a fantastic night, scoring eight kills, hitting .316 for the match and recording three blocks. Mackenzie Doherty came away with seven kills in the contest. Sarah Uczen racked up 16 digs, Alex Zapuchlak recorded 16 assists, and Lizzie Lightner finished with four blocks.
Edgewood College will return home to take on Wisconsin Lutheran College on Tuesday, October 2. Action will begin in the Todd Wehr Edgedome at 7:00 p.m.
