PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The Edgewood College volleyball team struggled to find an offensive spark in a 3-0 loss to Lakeland (25-28, 25-22, 25-21) on Friday night. The Eagles were able to keep each set close, as they recorded 38 total kills, and improved as the match went on.
The combination of freshman Sarah Pfeifer and junior Erika Van Engen paced the offense with a combined 13 kills, Alex Zapuchlak added 17 assists, Brittany Sager recorded 16 assists, and Sarah Uczen carved up 16 digs as the Eagles (2-11, 1-2 NACC) kept Lakeland (9-6, 2-1 NACC) within reach during each set.
Both offenses came alive in the second set, as the Eagles recorded their best hitting percentage of the night (.189). Late in the second set the Eagles offense looked strong, as kills from Tori Wiskow, Sarah Pfeifer, and a service ace from Amanda Meister gave the Eagles the lead (17-14). Errors made the difference in the second set, as Edgewood College racked up 22 in total.Lakeland took the final set, as Shannon Bishop recorded her 9th and 10th kills of the night in the final points of the set.
The Eagles return home tomorrow to face Rockford University and UW-Platteville in the Edgewood College Triangular.
