JANESVILLE, Wis. – Per tradition, the Edgewood College men's golf team began their 2018-19 season hosting the Culver's Edgewood College Fall Classic at Glen Erin Golf Club. Unlike most seasons, this year's event had to be shortened to just 18 holes on Friday after overnight rain soaked the course at Glen Erin. The Eagles score of 310 placed them seventh in the field of 20 teams.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College was a model of consistency, with the three golfers shooting matching scores of 77 (+6). Not only did Dawson Hinz, Matthew Davidson and Jensen Peck shoot the same score, they all shot 37 on the front nine and 40 on the back nine. Those three golfers tied for 25th place overall.
- Jackson Eversoll shot a 79 for the Eagles to round out their team score.
- Josh Hentrich actually had the team's best front nine, scoring 35, but ran into trouble on the back nine to finish with a score of 82.
- Taylor Ryman played as an individual for the Eagles, and shot a 78 in his season debut.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
- This was the first time since 2011 the weather forced the Culver's Edgewood College Classic to be shortened to 18 holes. That year the Eagles were one shot behind Viterbo University for first place when rain washed out the final round.
FOR THE FOES
- Webster University shot a 12-over par 296 to claim the team championship. The Gorloks narrowly edged out Carthage College by three strokes for the title.
- Brian Morris of Webster University shot a 1-under par 70 to claim individual medalist honors. Matthew Winkelmann of Oliver Nazarene University was the runner-up with an even par 71.
UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will travel north to Eau Claire next Sunday and Monday for the Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Invitational.
